| Prince Albert of Monaco not feeling pressure to marry June 3, 2009 at 2:00 am |
| It's rare in Europe for a reigning royal to be both unmarried and without a legal heir, but that's just the way it is with Prince Albert of Monaco.
"I've got broad shoulders, big enough to support that kind of pressure (to get married)…so you go about your own business and you don't let it get to you," Prince Albert recently told London's Daily Telegraph. "You follow your instincts and your own path. You go down that path until you see a future with someone."
Prince Albert has been dating former South African swimmer, Charlene Wittstock, for three years but, despite the pressure, has remained single and without a legal heir to the Monegasque throne. He has fathered two children - a teenage daughter, Jasmine, living in California, and a four-year-old son, Alexandre, with a Paris flight attendant - but neither offspring was born legitimately and therefore both have no claim to the throne.
Dismissing claims that the string of failed marriages for both his sisters, Princesses Caroline and Stephanie of Monaco, he did admit that the shoes left by his mother, actress Grace Kelly, would be tough shoes to fill. "It would be difficult for anybody to follow my mother as the Princess of Monaco."
