Vendor Spotlight .... Sposa Bella Photography
May 29, 2009 at 10:49 am

I had the pleasure of working with Craig and Lindsey for Courtney and Norman's wedding last year. They are so fun to work with and be around! I must add they're professional as well. They shot all night and had to drive to Charleston that night for an engagement session early the next morning. Now that's dedication! I can't wait for the opportunity to work with them again. Thanks Craig and Lindsey for the interview! By the way, you gotta love a woman who shops at Target!

Pink Bella: Tell us about Sposa Bella Photography

Sposa Bella: We created Sposa Bella Photography about 5 years ago when we moved our photography business to Greenville and decided to specialize in weddings. We are a husband and wife team, both principle photographers, and could not be more passionate about what we do.

Pink Bella: How long have you been in the business of photography?

Sposa Bella: We have been shooting for almost 7 years, but have been operating Sposa Bella for 5.

Pink Bella: How did you go about getting your first client?

Sposa Bella: We began our adventures in photography in Walhalla, SC (the small town we are from where everyone knows everyone) and our first clients were people who we had grown up with and known all our lives. Word spread around the town that we were starting a photography business and we had phone calls immediately!

Pink Bella: What initially interested you in photography?

Sposa Bella: Craig's mother owned and operated a professional photo developing lab, so Craig grew up with access to free film and developing and contact with professional photographers which inspired him to pursue photography. We began dating at the time Craig began shooting professionally and I immediately fell in love with photography and him!

Pink Bella: Describe your photography style

Sposa Bella: That is a hard question, if I had to narrow it down to one word, it would have to be romantic. During most of the time on the wedding day we prefer to stand back and watch events unfold naturally. That enables us to get real faces and emotion that we feel is unmatched except on a wedding day. The technical term for that is photojournalism, but we are not strict photojournalists. We also feel that some of the most important images we can capture on a wedding day are the bride and groom portraits, but we do those with an artistic flair. We do take time to set up and pose a couple in order to capture amazing images of the two of them together. I feel that this is one area where many photographers don't spend enough time, but they end up being some of the couple's favorite images.

Pink Bella: What services/products do you provide?

Sposa Bella: We specialize in weddings (including engagement and bridal sessions), however we are beginning to shoot family sessions on a limited basis. Because we have an professional imaging lab all in house, we are able to create custom works of art with wall portraits, handmade art books, and custom cards and invitations. Really love to be creative and create unique pieces inspired by our clients.

Pink Bella: Is there a current trend in photography? If so, what would you say is that trend?

Sposa Bella: Over the past 10 years, there has been a trend towards photojournalism, for the photographer to stand back and capture what unfolds. But we now see a shift from the purely photojournalism towards a high-end glamour/magazine style of photography.

Pink Bella: If you could work along side any one photographer, who would it be?

Sposa Bella: There are two photographers who are tied for this spot. Joe Buissink from Beverly Hills and Elizabeth Messina from Santa Barbara. We have taken classes with both of them and they are so passionate about what they do, it is impossible not to be inspired and energized when you are around them.

Pink Bella: Offer some suggestions for clients when preparing for a session

Sposa Bella: There are several things to remember when you are going to have your photo taken. The first being to be careful with your clothing choices. You don't want the images to look dated, so don't wear anything too trendy. Also, solid colors look best. A busy pattern will draw attention away from your face. Also, wear something that is comfortable for you to sit and move around in, if it is too tight or revealing and you are constantly pulling on your clothes, your will look uncomfortable in the images. Also, I would advise people to be careful of excessive tanning. Too many visits to the tanning bed will make you appear orange in photos, especially if everyone else in the images has a lighter complexion! As for make-up, I would suggest wearing the amount you normally wear day-to-day, then bring your make-up with you to the session. You can always apply a little more if your photographer suggests.

Okay Personal Questions

Pink Bella: How did you guys meet? How long have you been married?

Sposa Bella: We are both from the same small town of Walhalla, SC. Craig was a senior at Clemson University and came back to Walhalla to coach the soccer team. I was a senior at Walhalla High running on the track team, and we practiced in the same area. We became friends and stayed in touch as I went off to the College of Charleston. Then on a visit home my senior year in college, we ran into each other and began dating.

Pink Bella: Name two songs on your IPod.

Sposa Bella: Levon by Elton John and Let's Go Crazy by Prince

Pink Bella: Target or Walmart?

Sposa Bella: Target, for sure!

Pink Bella: What's the one song that it'll get you moving?

Sposa Bella: For Craig and I, they are very different. For me anything by Madonna in the 80's will get me up and dancing. For Craig, it'd be dance music from the late 90's.

Pink Bella: What advice would you give to the newly married couple being that you are married?

Sposa Bella: The most important thing you can do is to communicate openly and honestly. Most arguments stem from a misunderstanding. Tell your significant other if something bothers you, and discuss it in a calm way. You can usually diffuse any situation by being open and honest about your feelings.

Pink Bella: Favorite vacation spot?

Sposa Bella: This is a hard one. We love to travel, and have been to so many places together. There is so much of the world to see, and we don't like to return to a place we have already visited. But if I had to pick one place, it would probably be Italy for the culture, food, wine, and weather!
